What's up everyone? Welcome to another episode of Down Once More. I'm your host, Matt, and we are kicking off a new month. So that means it is time to go over my watch report, what I've been watching lately, my thoughts on it, and then what's coming to streaming in theaters this month. It's not an exhaustive list, but it's things that either I'm excited about, uh originals to the streaming series, or things that I at least want to make you aware of. Now, as always, there's time codes down below. So if you want to skip to your favorite streamer, have at it, or maybe you want to listen to all of them and see what do you maybe want to sign up for for a month. Uh let's get into the watch report first. I did finish DTF St. Louis on HBO Max. It finished its run this month. Uh, it didn't nail the landing for me. The season as a whole, I felt like there were enough interesting moments and enough intrigue and mystery that kept me going week to week, even though the humor and the writing was kind of awkward and a little bit off, uh, if that makes sense. Not necessarily my vibe. And so I'm kind of pulling back a little bit on my recommendation of it because it's definitely not for everyone. But if you've got nothing else to do, or you're a fan of Linda Cartellini, Jason Bateman, or David Harbor, then check it out. Otherwise, bump it to the back of your list, in my opinion. Um Monarch Legacy of Monsters just finished season two last week, and I am caught up. I enjoyed it. I wasn't quite as invested as I was in season one, I felt like. I'm not sure if that's because of the scale of how everything grew this season and the other characters and the little side quests and plot points didn't keep me quite as invested. Um, or maybe it's how I watched it. My binge watch model, maybe it failed me this time. Still a solid season overall, and the finale kind of set up where it is in the monster verse, cemented that a little bit more. Uh, I would still recommend it, and I thought it was still a good time, and I do hope there is a season three coming. Daredevil Born Again continues to be fantastic on Disney Plus. Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch in Daredevil is amazing this season. Uh, so is Deborah Ann Wallace, Karen Page, and Vincent D'Nofrio always solid as Fisk and his kind of unique portrayal of the character. Pulling in returning characters, new characters, been loving that. The finale will have aired last night when this episode comes out, so I haven't obviously watched it at the time of recording, but I'm hoping they nail the landing. They're already filming season three. Viewership for season two has been down, which is shocking to me. I believe it is a lot stronger than season one, and I really enjoyed season one. So if you've been holding out and waiting, go watch the series. Uh, the boys, the final season is airing right now. So far, it's good. I think I'm maybe a little just out and not in the right mindset for this style of over-the-top kind of graphic, crass humor comedy, action, superhero movie. I I've enjoyed the early seasons, but some of it's just wearing a little thin on me. I do think it's time for it to end. I will say I did enjoy the spin-off Gen V that they announced has finished after two seasons. Characters could be popping up elsewhere. They're doing another spin-off called Vaught Rising that focuses on Soldier Boy, and so we'll see how that is. I think Aya Cash is returning as Stormfront as well. So we'll see. I do enjoy the universe overall, but some of this, some of the characters within the first few episodes, I'm just a little bit out on, and I don't find myself as hooked on this one. But from all reports, it only goes up from here. So I'm excited to check out that and keep finishing the season. I watched Thrash on Netflix. This was with uh Phoebe Donover, and it was uh the Shark Attack movie that I said I was excited for, and my fear going into it turned out to be valid as it focused more on the human elements and not particularly in a good way. I did not need the oh, what's gonna happen? Will she have her baby? Will the sharks get her baby? That whole plot, and then it would randomly cut to these three foster kids who are in abusive foster home and random shit there that felt like they just wanted another way to pigeonhole some sharks and weird shark kills into it. The sharks were not the star of the show, in my opinion. It had a lot of promise, did not land for me. Another Netflix original that actually did land for me was Apex, and it's had pretty mixed reviews too. But this was Taryn Egerton and Charlize Thoron in a kind of survival thriller, kind of some horror uh elements, and I really enjoyed it. Uh, just from the get-go, it is so intense with a cliffface climb, uh, Eric Bana's in it as well, and I thought it was a very fun thriller. I enjoyed it. Uh, Imperfect Women on Apple TV. I finished that, it was based on the novel, and I really enjoyed it. There were definitely some soap opera levels of drama at times, but overall, I was thoroughly engaged throughout the whole thing. I felt like the ending was pretty solid. For some reason, I'm usually a big Carrie Washington fan. I felt like she was made kind of the weakest link in this for me. I don't know why. There was just something about her performance that didn't quite click for me, but overall, great cast, uh, interesting enough kind of thriller, mystery, drama, murder mystery. Over on uh Apple TV, a new show that just debuted is Widow's Bay with Matthew Rice. The first two episodes are out. I thought it was a fantastic mix of comedy, horror, mystery, uh, kind of some supernatural elements. I am hooked and I am really excited to see where the series goes. I think it could be one of the best on Apple TV in a while. A lot of fun performances, and I am very intrigued. I watched Five Nights at Freddy's 2 now that it's streaming on Peacock, and it was a very solid meh for me. I never played the games, didn't love the first movie. The Abby, who Josh Hutcherson's sister in it, who has the connection with the souls of the kids at Freddy's, her performance in this was rough for me, and just some really mind-boggling decisions from the characters in it. Writing was weak, the horror elements uh and suspense weren't there as much, just kind of some jump scares, but not really a movie for me, but I didn't love it. I also binge-watched Unchosen on Netflix. This is a drama thriller show with Christopher Eccleston, Frafie, Asa Butterfield, and Molly Windsor. Takes place in kind of like an open cult in the UK. Uh, this community that's led by their leaders, very traditional. Women have to listen to their husbands, can't do anything on their own, can't really leave, don't really have any independence. And uh Frafie plays this prisoner who has escaped and ends up saving one of the family's daughter who's drowning, um, and kind of a whole bunch of webs get tangled, woven, all sorts of things. I thought it was solid, kept me engaged. Every episode ended with a little bit of a cliffhanger that made you want to hit that next episode button right away, and I really enjoyed it. Uh, not the strongest thing ever, but still pretty enjoyable. Okay, that's my watch report. Watch quite a bit over the month, but let's jump on over to Netflix. So out now, they had a number of things drop on the first. Uh 13 going on 30, burn after reading, den of thieves, green book, hitch, jumanji, meet the parents, meet the Falkers, uh, Little Fockers too, but that one Pretty Woman, Starship Troopers, Schindler's List, The Breakfast Club, The Land Before Time, which is very nostalgic for me. I grew up on that movie with Littlefoot and Tree Stars, uh, The Road to El Dorado, The Proposal, There's Something About Mary, uh Lord of the Flies, which is a Netflix original series, at least that's how it's being distributed in the US. I believe it aired in the UK on one of their streaming um platforms first, or their TV platforms first. Uh, it's a mini-series based on the Lord of the Flies novel, which is basically what Yellowjack is the Showtime series was. Plane crash, kids start going against each other, uh, power dynamics, that sort of thing. Uh real study on the human emotions. And so that mini-series looks solid. I'm excited to check that out. And then Swapped, which is uh Netflix original. It's an animated family movie about uh two animals that body switch and have to learn to live lives in each other's body. A bird and then a little like muskrat, prairie dog looking thing. I don't know what actual kind of animals they are. I don't know if it was build as such. Uh on May 7th, a new Netflix original series, Legends, debuts. This is a 90s British crime drama focuses on the true story of customs officers who go undercover to topple uh kind of heroin drug gangs. And it looks very interesting. I am a sucker for a British crime drama, so I'm excited to check this out. On May 8th, Remarkably Bright Crit Creatures, another Netflix original. Uh, this is based on the novel by Shelby Van Pelt. Alfred Molina, uh, who you may know as Doc Ocht from Spider-Man 2, voices this octopus in the aquarium who's narrating and kind of observing what he sees. Uh, he's watching primarily The Cleaning Lady, who's played by Sally Fields, and her new trainee played by Lewis Pullman. Uh, it looks like it focuses on human emotions, connection, drama, loss. I'm very interested in this. It seems heartwarming. Uh, it's not gonna be at the top of my list, but I'm a big Lewis Pullman fan, and Sally Fields is always solid as well. May 10th, the roast of Kevin Hart, hosted by Shane Gillis, airs live on Netflix. And on May 11th is the beginning of Pop Culture Jeopardy. This is going to be a weekday game show on Netflix hosted by Colin Jost of SNL. On May 12th, a new Martin Short documentary called Marty Life is Short that follows, uh kind of explores his life and growing up and his career. On May 13th, the Netflix reality series Perfect Match season four debuts. And on May 14th, another new Netflix original series, Nemesis debuts. This follows an LEPD cop who becomes obsessed with taking down a crew of master thieves. Um, and it looks like some great action, looks intriguing, and has the IT guy from Abbott Elementary that's dating the principal. I forget his name, which is bad. But solid character, excited to see him in a different role. Also on the 14th, GOAT, the animated movie about the goat that plays the extreme kind of basketball in the animal world comes out, which I heard was very fun. Uh kind of produced by Steph Curry in it as well. Heard it was a fun family movie. So if you got kids, that could be one to check out. May 16th, the horror sequel Blackphone 2 debuts, and on May 16th, another live sporting event is Ronda Rousey. Well, not another live sporting event, another live event. Uh Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano, Nate Diaz versus Mike Perry, and Francis Nganu versus uh Felipe Linz. It's an MAM MMA event. It is live, it is getting lots of build up towards it. Uh Gina Carano's return, Rhonda Rousey's return to MMA. And so if that's your thing, make sure to check that out on the 16th. On the 18th, Jordan Peel's Nope uh comes back to Netflix, and a number of history channel docuseries uh drop, one on FDR, Abe Lincoln, Grant, The Great War, Teddy Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and Washington. On May 21st, a new sci-fi supernatural horror series produced by the Duffer Brothers, who did Stranger Things, The Burroughs debuts. This is set in a retirement community where the residents have to kind of band together to uncover and fight unique threats, uh, otherworldly threats is what it looks like. It stars Alfred Melina, Bill Pullman, Alfred Woodard. Uh, it looks like a lot of fun. I'm excited to check it out. Uh, we're going the two extremes. I know the Duffers didn't write and direct it, but Stranger Things focus on the kids, this focused on retirees. Kind of funny. Um, May 22nd, a new Netflix original series from the creators of Big Mouth mating season. It focuses on animals in nature during mating season. It looks like it's gonna be raunchy, just like Big Mouth, so definitely not everyone's cup of tea. But if you have a little bit of an immature sense of humor, this could be the show for you. And then a Netflix original movie Ladies' First Debuts. Uh, this stars Sasha Baron Cohen and Rosamond Pike. Uh, Sasha Baron Cohen's character gets knocked out. Uh, he's kind of a womanizing kind of douchebag, just ultimately, uh misogynistic. He gets knocked out and wakes up in a parallel world where it is dominated and run by women. It looks probably not very good, but interesting enough, and hey, if you have a Netflix subscription, why not check it out? On May 24th, Ferrari uh movie comes out, and season two of Tom Segura's anthology series Bad Thoughts debuts. On May 27th, season two of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, based on the novels, comes out. And then on May 28th, Dead Man's Wire, the movie with Bill Skarsgard, the true crime drama, comes out. I was interested in this uh when it was coming to theater, so I'm excited that's coming to Netflix, so I can finally check it out. And then season two of the romantic comedy series, The Four Seasons, comes out, uh, starring Tina Faye, uh Colem Domingo, Will Forte, Steve Corell, and Erica Henningson. So I haven't watched season one yet, but season two coming out this month might just bump it up my list. On Apple TV now, let's hop over there a few things. May 8th, a new thriller series from the producers of Homeland, Unconditional debuts. Uh now, this looks like a very interesting thriller, but I do want to give the caveat that it does have language in Hebrew, Russian, and English. So it's one you'll want to be prepared to dedicate some time to. Put down the phone and read the subtitles and enjoy it. On May 20th, uh, what I'm most excited about on Apple TV is Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. There's a new thriller comedy series with Tatiana Aslani and Jake Johnson. I love both those leads. I'm excited to check it out. A May 29th, uh TV show spin-off of For All Mankind, Star City debuts. This kind of focuses on the Soviet Union space program. It's labeled as a paranoid thriller, stars race even rice ethan's in it as well. So for all mankind, alternate universe, Soviets get to the moon first. Looks interesting. I haven't checked out for all mankind yet. I'll probably do that before I check out Star City. And then also a new movie written, directed, and narrated by John Travolta, Propeller One Way Night Coach, debuts on Apple TV. It is based on Travolta's 1997 novel. It's a family movie about a young aviation enthusiast, Jeff, and his mother, who go on a cross-country flight to Hollywood. So no trailers are out for this yet at the time I'm recording it. Family movies aren't necessarily my thing. Sounds bad to say, but it's the truth. So if it is your thing though, check it out. Over on Prime Video, out now is the Equalizer and Equalizer 2 with Denzel Washington, Agent Cody Banks 1 and 2, Babe and Babe Pig in the City, Good Fellas, Hot Fuzz, Long Shot, Seth Rogan and Charlie's Throne. I thought that was a fun uh comedy. Bad Words, a great comedy with Jason Bateman, Hot Tub Time Machine, Mamma Mia, you get your musical fix in, Safe House, Scarface, The Great Outdoors, The Jerk, The Pink Panther, both in 1963 and 2006 Steve Martin version, and then War Games. On May 6th, the Prime Original series Citadel debuts at season two. This one's kind of focused on Stanley Tucci's character, and it still has Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopper Jonas returning in their roles and introduces Jack Raynor into the mix in this kind of action thriller about an elite team of spies. And so looks like a lot of fun. I never checked out season one. Uh just watching the season two trailer. I'm hooked, want to check it out. Looks like it'll be some fun action. On May 13th, off campus debuts the new prime original series about hockey players falling in love based on novels by L Kennedy. It starts out kind of like oh, a lot of teen movies do, where it is we're gonna pretend to like each other to make someone else jealous, and then we end up actually falling in love. It does feature Antonio Cipriano, so there's the musical connection there. I'm a big fan of anything Antonio Cipriano is in uh because he has an amazing voice, one of my favorites. Check out the In Pieces deluxe album of that musical that's in development, and In the Light from Michael Mopp. So check out those musicals if you want some good, solid music featuring Antonio Cipriano. May 20th, Jack Ryan Ghost War debuts. This is the prime original movie, follow-up to the series with John Krasinski playing the classic Tom Clancy uh CIA CIA analyst Jack Ryan. So it looks like it'll be a fun action movie, kind of a way to continue that without having it be a regular series. Continue that story. May 21st, the horror movie Blink Twice with Zoe Kravitz and Channing Tatum debuts. This one has some heavy stuff in it, but I did genuinely enjoy it when I watched it. May 23rd, the award-winning One Battle After Another, uh, from Paul Tam Thomas Anderson debuts. Uh Leo's fantastic in this movie, so recommend you check that out if you haven't already. And then on May 27th, Spider Noir. Nicholas Cage stars as Ben Riley in this spin-off of the character from Into the Spider-Verse. It's produced by Lord and Miller, uh, is going to be debut both in true black and white and color. So Nicolas Cage plays Spider Noir, he voiced the character in Into the Spider-Verse, so now they're just bringing it to live action. You get some classic Spider-Man villains with um Sandman, tombstone in it. I am intrigued by this series. It looks like it should be a good time. And then Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which was not a great movie, but if you want some fun, mindless superhero action, throw this one on. Hopping on over to HBO Max, Out Now is a good day to die hard, Despicable Me, The Florida Project, Saltburn, Spider-Man Across the Spider-Ver, Crazy Rich Asians, Walk the Line, and Wuthering Heights debuted, the Jacob Alordy and Margot Robbie, uh Emerald Fennel movie, which got panned by people who read the book and were wanting it to be based on the book. People who didn't read the book seem to enjoy it, so I don't know. And then the newest insidious movie, Insidious the Red Door. I can't believe this series is still going. By all accounts, this movie is not great. But if you just want some horror thing to throw on, there you go. On May 8th, uh Gerard Butler's Greenland 2 migration debuts. I enjoyed the first Greenland movie. I heard the second one wasn't as good, but I'm excited to get to form my own opinion and watch it when it drops on the 8th. And then a three-part true crime documentary, The Palu Family, Under a Dark Spell. It's about a shocking Turkish case, murder, coercion. Seems intriguing. I'll probably check that out or at least throw it on the list. May 22nd, Josh Johnson Symphony, a new comedy special uh debuts on May 24th. The 2018 Tomb Raider movie with Alicia Vikander debuts. Uh, this is where on the heels of the Sophie Turner series that Amazon Prime is kind of paused right now due to Sophie Turner got injured during filming. It should resume. I always enjoy the Tomb Raider stuff. I enjoyed the 2018 movie for what it was. It is very tonally different than the Angelina Jolie ones, but it's kind of based on the more gritty. Newer games in the Tomb Raider series. May 26th, The Rampage comes to HBO Max. This is a ridiculous action movie with Dwayne the Rock Johnson, loosely inspired by a classic arcade game. It was not great, but it does have some just truly mindless action if you want to enjoy that. May 27th, the Bob Dylan biopic, a complete unknown, comes to HBO Max. On May 29th, there's a new movie with Allison Janey, Bonnie Hunt, Andrew Randles, and Oscar Nunes called Miss You, Love You that debuts. They have not released a trailer for it yet. So I like the cast. I'm a fan of the people in it. I'm not sure. It looks like it'll be a more like emotional, heartwarming movie, which isn't necessarily my thing. So we'll see if we check it out or not. And then The Moment comes out. This is the Charlie XCX kind of mockumentary about Brat Summer taking off, is essentially what it is. So I heard it was good for what it was, so I'm excited to check that out. Now it's going to be on HBO. Hopping on over to Hulu. Out now is Con Air, Coyote Ugly, The Departed, Holes, The Infiltrator, The Internship, I Robot, Joyride, The King's Man, The Last Duel, Minority Report, The Other Guys, Panic Room, Philadelphia, The Prestige, which I think Prestige is still one of my probably top two Christopher Nolan movies, if not my number one Christopher Nolan movie. I think not enough people talk about it. It is fantastic. Great performances from Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in it as well. And then we got some Star Wars movies, the original trilogy, as well as Rogue One. And then you have Sicario, Super Troopers, Take Me Home Tonight, War of the Worlds, White Chicks, Open Season, which is a cartoon that I grew up on. Ashton Kutcher and is it Martin Lawrence? A lot of fun cartoon, deer, bear, hang out together, good time. And then Hallow Road. May 7th, Sam Raimi's Return to Horror Thriller movie, Send Help, comes out. I talked about this in my watch report from last month. Stars Dylan O'Brien, Rachel McAdams. I thought it was a great kind of survival horror movie. A lot of fun. Different than what I was expecting, but I would highly recommend it. So if you have Hulu, check that out at the end of this week. On May 8th, We Bury the Dead. There's a Daisy Ridley thriller movie. Excited to check that out. And then on May 15th, Rivals, Season 2. Now, this is a UK series that follows two families with long-standing rivalry. It's based on a series of Jilly Cooper novels. It's a little bit raunchy. I haven't watched season one, but uh Sage did and told me it was solid. So we'll see. Maybe I'll tune in with season two. On May 21st, Alien Romulus comes out. I thought it was a fun entry in the Alien franchise. And then May 22nd, The Home comes out. There's a Pete Davidson horror movie. So if that's what you've been clamoring for, your wishes have been granted. And on May 28th, season two of Deli Boys releases. Uh and this season, Fred Armison, Kumaio Nangiani, and Andrew Randles joins the cast, uh, along with uh the main stars Asif Ali and Sagar Sheikh from uh season one. Over on Disney Plus, only a couple things I want to call out. May 12th, this is one of the things I'm most excited about this month, and it is Punisher One Last Kill, the Marvel special presentation focusing on Frank Castle, that I think will be kind of bridging where he was in at the end of Daredevil Born Again season one, and bridging between there and his appearance in Spider-Man brand new day, when that comes out in July. We've already seen him in the first trailer for that movie. So excited to see some more of Frank Castle's story. And then if you like me have been seeing Savannah Banana clips on Instagram, TikTok, wherever you may go, and now that Derek Clenna from Broadway is on there, I've been seeing a lot more. It's been in my algorithm with the Broadway stuff. They're May 23rd and 29th, two banana ball games. You can watch the Savannah Bananas live on Disney Plus. Alright, over on Peacock, out now is 51st dates, Billy Madison, Bridesmaids, Chicago. There's your musical for the streaming service, Crank, The Day After Tomorrow, Dirty Dancing, Dunkirk, Four Brothers, Galaxy Quest, Heller High Water, Jojo Rabbit, Kicking and Screaming, The Martian, Mechanic Resurrection, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Mummy Trilogy with Brendan Fraser, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Pulp Fiction, Revolutionary Road, The Rundown, which is a really fun, underrated uh movie with Dwayne The Rock Johnson and Sean William Scott. I really enjoyed it. Uh, Shutter Island and Spirit, Stallion of the Cimarron, which, if you need some emotional horse movies, this is for you. On May 7th, a new Peacock original series, MIA debuts. This uh follows a woman who goes on a mission to Miami's underbelly to avenge her drug-running family's murder. So there is going to be CD crime families, drugs, violence, all the fun stuff that you may wish in this new series. On May 8th is the movie debut, supposedly, of another man's wife. This stars Tay Diggs, who played Benny and Rent on Broadway originally, and in the movie adaptation. And it's basically an indecent proposal, is what it sounds like. A rich man makes an indecent proposal to a couple. There's no trailers, so I kind of find it hard to believe that it's releasing in two days on Friday, but that's what Peacock's official site says, so we'll see. On May 18th, the Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare comes to Peacock. May 21st, Wicked goes back to Peacock for its streaming home. And on May 22nd, a number of Quentin Tarantino movies drop. Kill Bill, The Whole Bloody Affair, which is the first streaming debut of this whole one and two put together and cut together. Uh Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Inglorious Bastards and Reservoir Dogs. On May 24th is the season one premiere of The Killer Among Us. This is a mystery series where there is a killer in a town, they know it's one of their own. This is something not many details are known about. There's no trailer. Premise sounds intriguing though, so we'll see. Uh, once I see a little bit more if it's gonna be worth checking out. Alright, time for our final streamer, Paramount Plus. Out now are seasons one through five of the TV show Friday Night Lights. Ali, uh Beverly Hills Cop, 1, 2, and 3, The Crocodile Dundee trilogy, Dinner for Schmucks, Elf, because if you need your Christmas movie in May fix, you can have that now. Face Off, the over-the-top ridiculous action movie with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage. Good Morning, which is a Machine Gun Kelly movie. It's got some decent music if you like Machine Gun Kelly. Overall, not a very well-written movie, kinda cheesy. It just seems like it was something he's like, hey, let's all get high and have some fun making a movie. So have some entertaining moments, and like I said, I enjoy the music. Uh Holes, Nacho Libre, Quantum of Solace, if you need some James Bond fix-in, Sahara, School of Rock, Seven Psychopaths, Snake Eyes, if you want to dive back into the G.I. Joe universe, Super, which is uh James Gunn. I can't remember if he wrote and directed it or just produced it, but as Rain Wilson, it is a unique superhero film. So it's interesting enough. Recommend checking it out. The Hunt for Red October, The Mechanic, and Venom. And then on May 15th, a new Paramount Plus original, Dutton Ranch premieres. This is the next in the line of Yellowstone spin-offs. If you're a fan of Yellowstone, this looks like it's picking up the action drama. So tune in to that. Alright, let's close out with what's coming to theaters. We'll open this past weekend that's out now, is Hokum, which is a new horror movie starring Andrew Scott. He plays a horror writer who visits an Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes. He's unaware though that supposedly it's haunted by a witch. So this one's not getting great reviews, but I like Adam Scott. I like some unique horror movies. I'll probably check it out when it comes to streaming. Uh Deep Water also released this past weekend. It has Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley, Sir Ben Kingsley, play pilots. Uh, there is an accident on the plane, it crashes in shark-infested waters, and they have to try to survive and keep everyone safe. There's another one, it has sharks, but they it doesn't look like a good shark attack movie. It just looks like human drama, some elements, and the sharks are there to throw some some difficulty in. And then The Devil Wears Prada 2, which I have been hearing great things about this. Uh, it stars Glenn Close and Anne Hathaway. They return, along with Emily Blunt, Stanley 2G, and a number of other cast members in the sequel 20 years after the original released. This coming week on May 8th, hit me hard and soft the tour. Uh, Billie Eilish tour concert film in 3D from James Cameron comes out. So after the Eros Tour, it's Billie Eilish's turn now. So if that's your jam, head out to the theater, support that. Uh, a kind of ridiculous family movie, The Sheep Detectives, also comes out. Hugh Jackman plays a shepherd who would read murder mysteries to his sheep, and then when he's found murdered, his sheep decide to go investigate and solve the murder. Uh, it's based on the book Three Bags Full by Elionie Swan. It looks ridiculous, talking sheep. It's in the vein of Babe, like we talked about Babe earlier. Um, that's what this looks like. It looks insane. Uh, what I'm most excited about, probably for the whole month coming to theaters, is Mortal Kombat 2. I enjoyed the first one at times for the embracing the violence and the over-the-top action. Now, when they dwelled on the family and the new character they introduced Cole, that I didn't care for as much, but the actual action was a ton of fun uh with modern-day technology and effects. This one looks like it embraces the over-the-top nature of the old movies. We're gonna get even more tournament fights, more characters introduced. Carl Urban's here as Johnny Cage. It looks like a great time. I am very excited for it. Uh, also on May 8th, a smaller movie, Couples Weekend, it stars Josh Yad and Ashley Park, who are married play a married couple, as well as Alexandra DiDario and Dove V Diggs, who are also a married couple. But when Josh Gadd and Alexandra Dodario catch their spouses sleeping together, uh then confront each other, and then they end up being snowed in together. It looks um relationship drama, comedy. It looks intense, it looks like a lot of fun. So I'll be checking that one out sometime too. Whether in theaters, probably not in theaters, probably on streaming, but I'm intrigued. There's a smaller one, independent, so just want to put that on your radar. On May 15th, another David Diggs movie, Magic Hour, has David Diggs and Katie Assleton. They star as a couple who go out to the desert to navigate a new phase of their relationship. It looks like an emotional drama movie, but I like both the leads, so I'm intrigued by it. Uh, on the action side, we have In the Gray, uh, Isa Gonzalez, Jake Gillenhaul, and Henry Cavill star in this new Guy Ritchie written and directed movie. So you know the action's gonna be over the top. It's gonna be a lot of fun. It follows uh Isa Gonzalez, Jake Gillenhaul, and Henry Cavill all play covert operatives. It's gonna be a fun action movie. Love Guy Richie's kind of vibe and style, and this looks like it is a fully Guy Richie movie. Obsession also comes out, and that is a new Blue Mouse horror movie where a boy breaks a one-wish willow to get your one wish, and his wish is that this girl will love him more than anyone else in the world, and he gets exactly what he wished for, and it looks intense and like a new unique horror movie that I will check out at some point. On May 22nd, the second thing I'm most excited for this month: The Mandalorian and Grogu. Pedro Pascal Returns, it's directed by John Favreau. Um, following the Mandalorian uh of the Disney Plus series, we had three seasons on Disney Plus. Now it's coming to the Star Wars movie universe, diving into these characters more, bringing in some other characters from the Clone Wars, Rebels, kind of merging those animated shows together. And I'm excited for this. However, I am wondering how they're gonna tackle it to make it accessible to people who did not watch the Disney Plus series, because I think there's plenty of those out there. And if this is the first time you're seeing these characters, you're not gonna know what the fuck is going on. So I don't know. I'm excited for it. Having watched the series, if you didn't watch the TV series, I feel like it could be lost with this one. Another movie that I'm intrigued by is I Love Boosters. Uh Kiki Palmer stars in this new movie from Boots Riley, uh, who also wrote and directed Sorry to Bother You with Lakeith Stanfield, who was also in this, which was just an insane movie. And this looks like it's at that same level. Um, it follows a group of shoplifters who are trying to take down a fashion maven who is played by Demi Moore, who stole their designs. So it looks insane. Also has uh Will Poulter in it, it looks crazy. Uh, and then a new horror movie, Passenger, comes out. Couple comes across Grizzly Crash scene and encounter a demonic presence as one does. Okay, final weekend of the month, the May 29th. We have a few things. Uh, first is pressure. This stars Brendan Fraser as Dwight D. Out Eisenhower and Eisenhower Eisenhower, and it focuses on the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, and so uh General Dwight D. Eisenhower having to decide to launch the mission or risk losing the war. And Andrew Scott is also in this, who is always great in everything he's in, as James Stag, who is trying to warn them about these coming storms. The trailer is intense. It looks like a great historical war movie. Also, it coming out in the 29th is Backrooms, a new A24 psychological horror movie. It looks insane. Uh, Chibotella Age of 4 plays a patient who finds his way into a new dimension in the back of the store, and then ultimately his therapist has to venture in to save him as well. So it looks wild. The trailer is weird, quirky, just what you'd expect from an A24 horror movie. Uh more family vibe is the breadwinner. Uh, Nate Bargatszi, who I'm a big fan of his comedy, but he stars as a dad who stays home as his wife's career is taking off thanks to a successful appearance on Shark Tank. So it looks ridiculous, cheesy. It looks like a kids' movie, a family movie, which is exactly what it is. Some wholesome family fun, which Nate Bargazzi is one of the few clean commun comedians who I feel like is actually funny. And so he's just turning that into the movie world. And I think families will have a good time at this. I'm not the target audience for it, but I think you got kids, this could be a fun one. And then opening in limited release, and then opening fully in June, so I'll talk about it then too. Uh, but Power Ballad, uh, this is a new comedy drama with Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. Paul Rudd plays a wedding band singer who meets Boy Band Star, played by Nick Jonas, um, who then they kind of bond have a connection, are talking about music, and eventually Nick Jonas's character steals a song that Paul Rudd's character wrote. It becomes a hit. It looks there's some action, there's some comedy, it looks like a lot of fun. I am a big Paul Rudd fan, so I'm excited to check this out. And music. Music is what this podcast is about, it's at the core of it. Excited to check out this movie. All right, now kind of to close it out, just a few other call-outs and news things I want to address. I don't usually talk about stars because they don't usually have much coming to them, but they have had some amazing series. I really enjoyed Black Sales. I recommend that to people every chance I get. And they have a new series, Amadeus, that is debuting on May 8th. Now, Amadeus is there is a classic movie with F. Murray Abraham, who plays Antonio Solari, and it kind of follows his rivalry with Wolfgang, Amadeus Mozart. This show is adapting that same storyline, and it this show looks fantastic. I am glad I still have a star subscription. I am glad that I finally have something to use and watch on my star subscription now that Spartacus House of Asher is done. So I will be checking out Amadeus and it looks like a great time. I also have to call out this Friday the SUFS Pro Shot airs on PBS great performances. If everything goes according to plan, I will be seeing it live on Thursday. And so I will watch the tour and then watch the Pro Shot and then talk about both on next week's podcast. Maybe have a guest join on that one. You'll just have to wait and see how that looks. It was also announced, so some musical news. Florence Pugh played her in the 2019 movie. I this isn't one that necessarily had musical vibes to me, but we'll see. It's being turned into a stage musical. I enjoy my professional wrestling occasionally, I enjoy my musicals. We'll see how this turns out. Um, so Paige just made her WWE return. So hey, who knows what'll happen next. Uh it's kind of weird that she made her return and then this musical was announced.
